Dr Jessica Lutkin

Jessica LutkinQualifications:  BA Hons History (First Class) – University of Southampton (King Alfred’s College); MA Medieval Studies (Dist.) – Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, University of London; PhD (History) – Royal Holloway and Bedford New College.

Jessica specialises in English medieval history, having received extensive training under the supervision of some of the country’s leading medievalists.  She has worked on a variety of projects, including cataloguing the WARD 2 series at The National Archives.  Jessica is currently working for the University of York on the England’s Immigrants 1330-1550 project as research assistant and impact officer.  She has been commissioned by two of London’s Livery Companies – the Worshipful Company of Cutlers and the Worshipful Company of Masons – to research their early histories.  She has also provided research for some BBC programmes, including both series of History Cold Case, for which she appeared in series one, Stirling Man episode three, and Bomber Boys, in which she appeared looking at the infamous so-called ‘Butt Report’. Jessica also provides research support to Chris Skidmore MP.

After the completion of her PhD, Jessica joined SRA as senior medieval researcher, working on a variety of medieval genealogy and legal projects.  She has provided research and writing support to Nick Barratt for his recent publication Greater London: The Story of the Suburbs.  Jessica has also contributed a number of articles to Your Family History magazine, focusing on the medieval period.  She is not limited to the middle ages, and has provided research on various projects dating from 1200 to the 1930s.  She provided research for the BBC’s The Manor Reborn, transcribing a seventeenth century travel journal.
